Public Health England

Roger Morbey is the statistical project lead for the real-time Syndromic surveillance team of Public Health England.

Roger is a statistician with a background in health and the voluntary sector.

Current work involves developing systems for exception reporting of Syndromic data including introducing new statistical methodologies and automated production of statistical warning alarms, along with presentation and interpretation of data.

Automated surveillance includes daily analysis of up to 11,000 different signals. Statistical methodologies are tested and validated using simulations and scenario planning, and were used during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

Previous work at Derby Hospitals Foundation Trust centred on applying statistical methods for stochastic process control, developed in industry into a health setting looking at demand management and capacity planning; including work on bed management and length of stay analysis.
