Institute of Food Research

Dr Gary Barker is a mathematical modeller whose research centres on food borne hazards and quantitative risk assessments.

This includes analysis of actual hazard domains and the development of novel computer based tools for representation and visualization of complex food chain systems (in particular the theory and application of Bayesian networks for systems modelling and decision support).

Additional interests include harnessing new data supplies for risk assessment.

He has over 75 peer reviewed publications and has worked on projects supported by UK research councils, UK government agencies including the FSA, the EU, EFSA and multi-national corporations.

He is a member of the UK Advisory Committee on Microbiological Safety of Food.
