Theme 4 - Improving the evidence base for risk assessment and risk reduction
Public Health England
Professor Steve Leach leads the Emergency Response Department’s science and technology team, which identify, model and assess the risks posed to public health by newly emerging, high impact infectious disease threats, including those posed by bioterrorism.
The department’s work and its staff directly assist government departments with policy, planning and public health countermeasures for potential infectious disease emergencies.
He has over 25 years’ experience of setting up and managing research programmes relevant to emergency response that have variously included bacterial virulence and survival, bioterrorism, and public health mitigation strategies.
He has over 120 peer reviewed publications (h-index 19) and book chapters; of which 42 since 2003 are related to Emergency Preparedness and Response.
He is also Visiting Professor at Imperial College London’s Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology.
